The national monument is the 18th Dark Sky Place in Colorado. The park covers 22,000 acres between the White River National Forest and Great Dunes National Park and Preserve in central CO. Parks staff have said work to secure recognition was ‘minimal’ with retrofitted lighting near monument’s buildings and parking area.
