“Small but mighty” program of 10 employees exists to “protect, maintain, and restore acoustical and dark night sky environments” throughout the park system. This is mostly in the form of lighting projects at public parks – recently they oversaw the full retrofit of The Grand Canyon. The federal government has cut the entire parks department budget from $375m to $185m and smaller projects and offices are likely to bear the brunt of those cuts.
